The Living Sea Museum is housed in the Vinciprova Castle of Pioppi and has been open to the public since 1996. It displays about a hundred marine species in tanks across three rooms: each space recreates a habitat typical of the Cilento coast, from the cliff to the posidonia meadow, from sandy seabeds to caves.
The museum offers activities throughout the year: school programmes in spring and autumn and activities for tourists in the summer season, with an educational approach dedicated to environmental education and knowledge of the biodiversity of the Mediterranean.
Since March 2013 it has been run by Legambiente in collaboration with the Mare Nostrum Association and the Municipality of Pollica. Together with the Ancel Keys Mediterranean Diet Ecomuseum, housed in the same palace, it makes Pioppi a unique hub between the sea and the Mediterranean Diet.
